Training Dive 1: Basic DPV Operation and Simple Navigation
Objective:
Introduction to DPV basics and simple underwater navigation.
Recommended Location:
A sheltered area with minimal current, offering clear and straightforward navigation points.
Required Skills:
- Familiarization with the DPV’s controls and operation.
- Starting, stopping, and basic manoeuvring techniques.
- Practising ascending and descending while using the DPV.
- Basic navigation using natural features and simple compass use
- Emphasising the importance of the buddy system and communication while operating DPVs.
Training Dive 2: Advanced Maneuvering and Emergency Procedures
Objective:
Enhance manoeuvring skills in more challenging environments and practice emergency procedures.
Recommended Location:
A dive site that offers slightly more complex environments, such as mild currents or areas with natural obstacles.
Required Skills:
- Advanced manoeuvring, including precise turns and navigation in more challenging conditions.
- Implementing emergency procedures such as dealing with DPV malfunctions or entanglements.
- Perform alternate air source use while stationary and ascending.
- Fine-tuning buoyancy control and energy conservation while operating the DPV.
- Implementing environmentally conscious diving practices to minimise impact on the marine ecosystem.
