What are the required skills for Boat Diver Training Dive 1?
Students must complete the following skills:
- Locate and identify the following areas on the boat being used for the dive: bow, stern, starboard, port, entry area, exit area, and the area designated for storing dive equipment.
- Locate all necessary emergency and safety equipment on the boat, including a first-aid kit, oxygen, AED unit, life preservers, dive flag, radio, and fire extinguisher.
- Appropriate entry for the type of dive boat being used.
- Use the appropriate method based on the environment to navigate back to the boat. Ascend using the boat’s mooring or anchor line, a designated reference line, or return to the exit area as previously planned and appropriate for the boat and surroundings.
- Avoid unintentional contact with aquatic life and the ocean floor by maintaining neutral buoyancy.
- Use an inflatable signal tube at the surface or release a delayed surface marker buoy (DSMB) from underwater.
- Perform a safety stop at 5 metres for at least three minutes, or as indicated by their dive computer.
- Appropriate exit for the type of dive boat being used.
