What is the maximum number of students allowed for open-water training?
As an Instructor, you can take up to 8 students. However, you can add up to two more student divers for each Course Assistant.
When children between the ages of 10 and 11 take part, the ratio should be 4:1, and there should not be more than two children in the group aged 10 to 11.
To ensure safety and control, adjust ratios as necessary by considering various risk assessment variables such as:
- Water conditions (including movement, temperature, visibility, depth, aquatic life, and entry/exit logistics).
- Weather conditions
- Dive requirements
- Number of course assistants
- Your abilities, limitations and familiarity with the site
- Participant age, ability, experience and comfort level
If certified divers join non-certified divers (Intro to Scuba, Guided Diver and Independent Diver student divers), count the certified divers within the ratio and stay within the student diver/participant ratio for the least qualified person.
