What are the minimum equipment requirements for students on standard dive courses?
Each student should be equipped with:
- Fins, mask and snorkel
- Compressed gas cylinder and valve
- BCD with a low-pressure inflator and a cylinder mount or backpack.
- Regulator and alternate air source (AAS)
- Submersible pressure gauge (SPG)
- Depth gauge
- Quick-release weight system
- Adequate exposure protection for local dive conditions. Dry suits must be able to add and remove air from the suit. For more information, see Dry Suit Use.
- Ensure each student has at least one audible emergency surface signalling device, like a whistle.
- Dive computer
Familiarise divers with the equipment they will use on the course.

For safety reasons, it’s important to avoid using rebreathers in NovoScuba’s Intro to Scuba Diving program, NovoScuba Guided Diver, Independent Diver, or Instructor Courses. This standard applies to both staff and students.
