What is Confined Water?
Confined Water is a general term that describes a site, such as a swimming pool, that offers clear, calm water conditions that allow students to practice and master skills comfortably. Skills can also be conducted at an open water site, provided the site has swimming pool-like conditions. As conditions in a confined open-water area can change daily, you should reassess a site each time you use it.
Confined Water sites should have shallow and deep water areas for students to meet course requirements. There should be a clear distinction between a course’s confined and open water sections, with divers exiting the water before re-entering an open water site.
The exception to this is for NovoScuba Intro to Scuba participants. Also, students may progress directly from Confined Water dive 1 of the NovoScuba Guided Diver and Independent Diver courses to open water dive 1.
